Preparation Week - Day 4

Preparation week theme: Empty thyself

St. Peter Julian Eymard's words:

"All her virtues bore the Eucharistic stamp...Let us ask our Lord what passed between Him and His Blessed Mother during those years in the Cenacle. He will make known to us some of these wonders...One must understand, furthermore, the thanksgiving of Mary's love...The essential thing is to try to practice some given virtue of the Blessed Virgin's. Begin at once with the lowest, the smallest of these. When you have made them your own, your will go on, little by little, till you come to her interior virtues, even to that of her love...Then let us offer up some sacrifice."    Vol. 7 Saint Peter Julian Eymard

Meditation:

The vow that we are taking in participating in this consecration summon into mind the reality of the promise we are making to God. The Promise of the Father in His gifts of the spirit that will be given to us if we stay close to His Son in the Blessed Sacrament. The question above, "what passed between Him and His Blessed Mother?" can be applied to our own lives. In answer, St. Peter Julian recommends sacrifice. Love is reciprocal, it calls for a return, so if love is a sacrifice we need to offer something in return to God. We begin by examining the disposition of our hearts, we think of the purity of our intentions, we think of our concern for others, but most importantly we remember the love that was poured out for us from the cross. When the reality of this love enters our soul amidst crosses, toils, and disappointments of life the gift of thanksgiving is left for us.

"He will make know to us some of these wonders" Saint Peter Julian

The wonderment of hope will increasingly grow in our lives with the clinging to Mary by way of her virtues.

Please recite the Veni Creator:

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (make the sign of the Cross.)
We offer this prayer to you O Lord with the specific intention to empty thyself.

Veni Creator

COME, O Creator Spirit blest,
And in our souls take up Thy rest,
Come with Thy grace and Heavenly aid,
To fill the hearts which Thou hast made.

Great Paraclete! To Thee we cry,
O highest gift of God most high!
O fount of life! O fire of love!
And sweet anointing from above.

Thou in Thy sevenfold gifts art known,
The finger of God's hand we own;
The promise of the Father, Thou!
Who dost the tongue with power endow.

Kindle our senses from above,
And make our hearts over flow with love;
With patience firm and virtues high,
The weakness of our flesh supply.

Far from us drive the foe we dread,
And grant us Thy true peace instead;
So shall we not, with Thee for guide,
Turn from the path of life aside.

And, may Thy grace on us bestow
The Father and the Son to know,
And Thee through endless times confessed
Of both the Eternal Spirit blest.

All glory while the ages run
Be to the Father and the Son
Who rose from death; the same to Thee,
O Holy Spirit, eternally. Amen.

Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, pray for us.
Laura
